What is the Forum of Muslim Organisations (Greater Manchester)?

The Forum is a proposed collaborative platform designed to unite Muslim organisations across Greater Manchester. Its aim is to foster networking, shared learning, advocacy, and joint action to address community needs and promote social good, guided by Islamic values and best practice.

2. What is the vision for the Forum?

A unified and thriving Muslim civic presence in Greater Manchester—empowered by collaboration, committed to justice (Adl) and excellence (Ihsaan), and contributing to a more compassionate and equitable society.

3. What is its mission?

To provide a collaborative platform for Muslim organisations to connect, share resources and work together. It aims to strengthen collective impact, promote strategic advocacy and advance community development, grounded in Qur’anic values and Prophetic principles.

4. Why is the Forum needed?

Although Muslim organisations in Greater Manchester contribute significantly to society, past efforts at collaboration have been fragmented. The Forum responds to a growing demand for unity, coordination and a collective voice to positively enhance the Muslims community’s impact and representation.

5. Who are we?

The Forum of Muslim Organisations has emerged through consultation with representatives of many organisations, including:

Action for Humanity

British Muslim Heritage Centre

British Palestinian Families Network

Cheadle Mosque

Altrincham Mosque

Khizra Mosque

Convert Muslim Foundation

Islamic Society of Britain

Manchester Muslim Forum

6. What makes it different?

Muslim organisations demonstrate a wealth of skills, expertise and concern for grassroots communities. It is time these efforts were pooled in a collaborative and unified way that would mean that the collective impact would be stronger than the sum of parts.

Efforts to establish collaborative networks in the past have been short-lived due to various challenges.

There is an imperative to bring together Greater Manchester’s diverse Muslim organisations who work hard to serve communities and contribute greatly to British civil society in a meaningful way.

At a time when Muslim communities are feeling increasingly strained and disenfranchised by national and global events, collaboration would lead to increased strength and resilience.

Where Muslim communities often feel disempowered, the Forum, would seek to impact policy discussions and public discourse as well as provide focussed training, resources and consultancy on issues as wide ranging as Muslim women, interfaith-relations, community cohesion to media engagement.

The Forum would focus attention on areas that are often neglected yet have high impact e.g., Muslim converts, young people and female leadership development.

7. Why should your organisation join?

There are multiple benefits for member organisations. The Forum seeks to provide opportunities for:

Networking and resource sharing

Capacity Building

Advocacy and the representation of the collective voice of Muslim organisations in policy discussions and public discourse

Knowledge Exchange

Policy Development

Media & Public Relations training

8. How does the Forum align with Islamic teachings?

It is grounded in key Qur’anic and Prophetic principles such as unity, enjoining the good, standing up for justice, environmental sustainability and the collective wellbeing of society. These guide its ethical approach and commitment to communal solidarity.

9. What are the Forum’s core values?

Ihsaan (Excellence) – integrity, ethical conduct, compassion and reflection

Harnessing Diversity – inclusive of all cultures, ages, and Islamic traditions (non-sectarian)

Collaboration and shared learning

Empowerment and advocacy – supporting youth, women and grassroots leadership

10.
